- To quote a press release by the University of Malta: "A Paper by two University of Malta researchers has been awarded the prestigious Best Poster Paper at the IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on Computer as a tool." One of the two researchers is Dr. Ing. C. J. Debono, one of the IT lecturers.
- There is a new parking system on campus. Students can no longer park in the ring road, and there are other changes.
- University starts next week. Freshers' Week will be held during the frst week of University.

- The latest news on campus says that the Computing Services Centre (CSC) has been renamed to IT Services. IT Services also has a new subdomain... the website is much in the spirit of the old CSC website but bears the new name.
- The same NOC also mentions a much-needed UoM website redevelopment project.

- Choosing your stream for 3rd year can be done online on eSIMS as of last Monday, until today.
- Apparently choosing both the stream and the study-units for 3rd year will have to be done manually, and the registration form has to reach the Faculty Office between 20th-26th August 2007.

- According to the election results [PDF], Dr. Ernest Cachia has been elected to be the first Dean of the Faculty of ICT.
- We will have to choose our stream for 3rd year between 6th and 8th August 2007.

- An "Information Technology boolet" [PDF] has appeared on the bosit-list-web. It actually contains a description of all Final Year Projects this year, supposedly for some FYP Exhibition. The booklet doesn't seem to include the date of said exhibition, nor is its contents section very useful.

- IBM, in collaboration with MIIIT, is offering 17 internships with IBM for high-performing IT graduates.

- Looks like the rumours are true... a Faculty of ICT has indeed been created, as you can read in the photo of the article in today's The Times of Malta. The new faculty will consist of five departments: CIS, CS, AI, CCE, and Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics. Notice how the department of CS and AI is being split up into two.
- I know this site hasn't been updated much in the past couple of months... I was too busy to take care of it.
- Exams started last Saturday. Those who have the same subjects as me have their first exam, Systems Programming, tomorrow.

- Something interesting for those looking for work this summer: according to a flier [PDF] that was posted on the bosit-list-web, a presentation on career openings in IT and Engineering by Maltacom will be held next Friday 20th April 2007 at noon at LT1.

- Remember that tomorrow we have an extra lecture with Dr. Gordon Pace at 4pm in MP401.
- Remember also that the deadline for Systems Programming assignment 2 is on Wednesday.
- Remember as well that we are getting a weekend assignment in Formal Languages next weekend.
- Tuesday's Systems Programming lecture will be only in the second hour; and is optional because it is dedicated to difficulties.

- After a whole weekend with Athena down, the Systems Programming assignment 2 deadline has been extended to Wednesday 18th April 2007 (an extra 2 days).

- As you already know several assignments are out... including the second Systems Programming assignment, the Neural Networks assignment, the Graphics assignment, the Windows Programming assignment, and the Microprocessors assignment.
- The closest deadline is that of Systems Programming, which is on Monday 16th April 2007 (the day we come back from our Easter holidays).
- The week we come back from our Easter holidays, we also have two extra lectures with Dr. Gordon Pace, and a weekend assignment from same lecturer.

- There has been a lot of confusion about lectures being postponed because of the Computer Science Annual Workshop (CSAW) 2006. Lectures for 1st and 2nd years will take place, while some lectures will be postponed for 3rd and 4th years (check with the lecturers).

- Systems Programming: a lab session will take place next Wednesday between 10am and 12pm at CB205.

- On the bosit-list-web you can find a document [DOC] describing the new weighting of the year averages with respect to the degree.

- IMPORTANT: The Business Management will be held at the end of the 1st Semester, not at the end of the 2nd Semester as originally planned.
- Next week we're getting a Telecommunications 1 assignment (and probably a pile of others).
- Tomorrow, elections for student representatives on the Faculty Board and Senate will take place. The elections will take place at the common room between 9am and 5pm. All students can vote for the Senate Election, but voting for the Faculty Board is for Arts, Laws, Theology and Science students. I don't know whether the Board of Studies for IT falls under Science or if it's considered a separate faculty.
- Logic2: the lab manual on SEAL has been updated. The experiments remain the same but some information about connecting the circuits has been added.

- The next two OOP lectures with Dr. Nezval will start an hour early so we will have 3 hours. The hour between 2pm-3pm will take place in ELT, while the normal lecture between 3pm-5pm will take place as usual in MP401.

- An IT Careers Convention [DOC] is being presented by KSU. This includes an ITSA seminar on Careers in IT tomorrow between 1pm-3pm (during which time lectures have been cancelled) at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, and another talk on Thursday at noon at the common room about IT in malta.
- Probability tutorials will be held next week instead of tomorrow, because of the Careers Convention.
- 21st October 2006:
- This BSc IT page has been redesigned and relocated. It has a new layout, and a new Links page.
- Nezval's OOP sources can be obtained from the CIS labs. See the Year 2 Resources page for directions.
- Logic2 resources on SEAL, such as the syllabus, components form and lab groups are being updated regularly.
- Those taking Signal Analysis: Next week's Signal Analysis lecture (supposed to be Monday at 8am) is being postponed to Friday at 8am (during the labs slot) at a location to be announced. Because of this, the Signal Analysis labs are also being pushed back by one week.
- A Probability tutorial will take place next week on Tuesday. Group 1 (those who were sitting on the left-hand-side of the lecture hall in yesterday's lecture) will have their tutorial between 11am-12pm at EB3. Group 2 will have theirs between 12pm-1pm at CB101.
- Those taking Systems Programming: A lab session for C programming is scheduled for next Wednesday between 10am and 12pm at CS Lab A (CB205) with Mr. Joel Azzopardi.
- Those taking Compiling Techniques: the venue for Monday's Compiling Techniques lecture is being changed. The first hour will be held in MP401, while the second will be in MP216.

- A new computer lab has been set up at MP602 with general CSC access. This is the new STATOR computer lab, which has 57 workstations, and facilities for scanning, printing and WiFi access.

- You may now form teams for the labs of Computer Logic and Organisation 2 from SEAL.

- There will be no Business Management next week, and in the meantime we are supposed to go through chapters 1, 3 and 4 of the book quickly, and 6 in depth. You can read the email sent by Nathaniel Massa (our lecturer) about this.
