* The numbers in the character list are in hexadecimal.
* There are 98hex (i.e. 152dec) character slots.
* Character numbers must be 2-digit.
* It is possible (but useless) to enter negative numbers (down to -9).
* The zero character is a pile of gold with an empty portrait.
* The characters are organised into 4 sections:
    * 16 slots for Avatar and companions
    * 48 slots for important characters with their own dialogues
    * 88 slots for generic tribe members (8 slots per tribe)
    * 1 empty slot (#98) for a special kind of 'ghost parrot'
* The first two sections are organised in alphabetical order of character
    (with the exception of the last 3 NPCs which may have been added at the end).
* The third section is organised in alphabetical order of tribe.
* In the third section, each tribe has 8 slots. The first 4 are for male
    members, while the second 4 are for female members.
* Some slots in the first two sections are empty, and correspond to what I
    call 'ghost parrots', whose location appears to be random.
* Some slots in the third section are also empty, but correspond to empty
    spaces.
* Most tribes have 3 male and 3 female members, normally organised in the
    order: 3 male members, empty slot, 3 female members, empty slot; though
    there are exceptions.
* Some Kurak tribesmen have the same names as Jukari tribesmen (maybe the
    developers did a copy'n'paste and forgot to change the names).
* Haakur, Sakkhra and Urali tribesmen do not have names.
* Despite having dialogue, parrots and wisps are not considered NPCs and are
    spawned like monsters.
